I think it's safe to finally chuck those winter beanies in storage. Since summer is right around the corner, I enlisted the help of Aveda hair experts from Civello salon Chicago to get the skinny on the upcoming season's hair trends to try.

Master colorist, Leah Kennedy said that summer is definitely the season to try out a little color that will brighten up your face and complexion. She recommends golden tones and even some softer reds. Her tip: go for  subtle color. She says that it's all about a natural and sunkissed look.

Creative director, Deron Edward said we should expect to see lots of lobs (long bobs) and romantic braids this summer. When it comes to styling, he recommends letting imperfect waves and some messy bed head shine through. He even went as far as saying that some of Chicago's humidity will work to our styling advantage to give off that disheveled, "I Woke Up Like This" cool look.

To get summer ready, I had Leah add some golden highlights to brighten up my complexion and shorten my lob to a chin-lengthed bob. I love to play with hair texture. For my last cut, I had the stylist use a razor to add some dimension to my ends. For this cut, I asked Deron to shorten my hair and added some choppy layers to play up some of my hair's natural waves.

To maintain the color and avoid funky fading, Leah recommends products specially developed for color-treated hair. I've been using Color Conserve by Aveda, it's a great color care line and smells like a luxe spa treatment.

Speaking of luxe spa experiences, Civello salons really know how to treat their patrons with a long list of different services! Every time you visit the salon, you're pampered with complimentary Aveda sensory rituals. Some of those rituals include an herbal blend tea, a stress-busting scalp and shoulder massage and a rejuvenating hand treatment among other soothing treatments. I left the Lincoln Park salon with fresh tresses and feeling totally zen. Check out some of the sensory rituals deets here.

I'm all about experimenting with my hair color and length right now. This cropped do is fun and has a personality of its own - all of which is perfect to get a jump start on summer. What summer trend are you dying to try?
