Gym apparel enthusiasts rejoice, the word “athleisure” will be added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary this year.

According to Merriam-Webster, athleisure will be defined as “casual clothing designed to be worn both for exercising and for general use.”

Athleisure, also commonly referred to as sports luxe, is much more than just wearing your tennis shoes as a part of your everyday wardrobe. It’s about finding athletic inspired silhouettes in high quality fabrics or knits to wear both casually and dressy.

Designers have been totally embracing this trend for a while and I remember seeing it blaze across fashion blogs in 2013, capturing that cool girl urban essence.

It’s easier than ever to achieve the look.

If you haven't tried the trend out for yourself, start with your favorite parir of your sneakers (i.e. Converse All-Stars or Adidas sneakers) and pair 'em with a mohair sweater or a pleated leather midi skirt. You can also try grabbing a pair of joggers in a luxe or unconventional fabric and wear them with a blouse or heels.

I paired my goat-leather joggers from Orvis with classic, but polished pieces that could easily transition the look to the office.
