The Canary Islands are gorgeous! This month's Throwback Thursday (TBT) is dedicated to a girls' trip I took to the Spanish island of LanzaroteLanzarote is the easternmost of the autonomous Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 125 km off the coast of Africa and 1,000 km from the Iberian Peninsula.

The culture, hospitality and beaches reminded me of my family's native Puerto Rico. Upon arrival, I read a bus sign that said guagua instead of autobús and instantly felt at home.

We originally booked the trip for a beach getaway, but the island -a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve- offered so much more than just beautiful, white sand beaches. It also offered volcanic landscapes, tropical vegetation, picturesque views and delicious seafood.

Our packing essentials for the trip consisted of hats, bikinis, airy dresses, sandals, sunglasses and bottles of sunscreen.

Due to the fantastic weather, our preferred mode of transportation around the island and to beachside hotels was via bike.

To test our biking skills, my friend Rachel and I decided to bike the challenging path to Papagayo Beach. The majestic beach views were worth every sore muscle.

I think it goes without saying that this Canary Island visit was a very relaxing and successful girls' trip.
